Each December a Tree of Light is hosted at St Mary’s Church Bridgend in conjunction with the Lions Club of Bridgend. The Tree of Light is a point of focus for people who want to remember a loved one or a special cause at Christmas. Individuals can dedicate a light on the Tree for £5.00 and the name of their loved one(s) or cause is recorded on a board kept alongside the tree for all to read. During the last ten years the Tree has helped raise over £8,000 which has supported not only local causes such as Heronsbridge School but has also contributed substantially to a Lions International project (Campaign Sight First II) which has helped to prevent blindness in more than 24,000,000 people in developing countries. Other Charities who have benefited from this event in previous years include Mental Health Matters of Bridgend, The Handicapped Children’s Pilgrimage Trust, Wales Air Ambulance, The Peter Ryan Appeal and Bridgend Samaritans. Following the Tree of Light Appeal of Christmas 2016 it was with great pleasure that our very own Brendan Devine accepted a cheque on behalf of the HCPT for £1000.
This years Appeal will raise funds for St Mary’s Church Welfare Trust and Handicapped Children’s Group 55.
Thank you to all who support this community initiative.
