You are living stones, chosen and precious, and, like living stones, offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Cf. Peter 1.
None of us likes to think that we are forgotten. We all hope to be remembered affectionately and, for the Christian, to be prayed for after we have died.
The Golden Book gives each named person an assurance of a daily prayerful remembrance and inclusion in the Annual Golden Book Masses. These Masses, at which you are most welcome, will be on the following days:-
- Christmas Day
- All Souls Day
- Dedication Day
- First Saturday of the Month
The Golden Book began life as a practical way of helping St Mary’s Parish lessen the financial burden of building the new church. The original Church, built in 1855 having served the Catholic Community for a 140 years had become unsafe. It was with reluctance that the decision was made to demolish the buildings but one that was filled with a vision of faith and hope. The new Church attests to this vision and is a tribute to all those who contributed both in time and money. The final Mass celebrated on November 17th 1997 was not the end of St Mary’s Parish, Bridgend, but a defining moment when the boundaries of St Mary’s, were extended to all those whose names would be entered into the Golden Book.
